The thief that shortens

All our golden hours.

I have never understood then

Why lovers count their happiness

In days and nights and years,

While our love can only be measured

In our joys and sighs and tears.

    Actually I read it in ine if the Sidney Sheldin’s novel, “Bloodline”. He quoted it in this book but he too was not sure who the actual poet is of this beautiful composition. So I thought you might be knowing the originator of this poem. Anyway thanks for your reply.
